[Verse 1]
 C           F             C         G
Nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!
 C              F            C    G      C
E’en though it be a cross, that raiseth me.
 C             F               C         G
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to thee,
 C           F
Nearer, my God, to thee,
 C    G      C
Nearer to thee!

[Verse 2]
 C                F         C            G
Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
 C            F        C  G      C
Darkness be over me, my rest a stone,
 C          F              C          G
Yet in my dreams I’d be, nearer, my God, to thee,
 C           F
Nearer, my God, to thee,
 C   G       C
Nearer to thee!

[Verse 3]
 C             F            C          G
There let the way appear, steps unto heav’n;
 C              F          C   G     C
All that thou sendest me, in mercy giv’n;
 C           F         C          G
Angels to beckon me, nearer, my God, to thee,
 C           F
Nearer, my God, to thee,
 C   G      C
Nearer to thee!

[Verse 4]
 C             F                C               G
Then with my waking thoughts, bright with thy praise,
 C          F             C  G        C
Out of my stony griefs, Bethel I’ll raise;
 C         F           C          G
So by my woes to be, nearer, my God, to thee,
 C           F
Nearer, my God, to thee,
 C   G      C
Nearer to thee!

[Verse 5]
 C           F            C           G
Or if, on joyful wing, cleaving the sky,
 C               F            C   G    C
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I fly,
 C             F              C          G
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to thee,
 C           F
Nearer, my God to thee,
 C   G      C
Nearer to thee!

[Verse 6]
 C            F              C           G
There in my Father’s home, safe and at rest,
 C            C              C    G      C
There in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest;
 C          F           C          G
Age after age to be, nearer, my God, to Thee.
 C           F
Nearer, my God, to thee,
 C    G    Am
Nearer to thee!
 C           F
Nearer, my God, to thee,
 C   G     C
Nearer to thee!
